Witness Location & Background Vetting

Find the Right Person. Verify the Record.

Finding an address is only useful if it belongs to the correct person. We combine identifiers, public records and appropriate database research to locate a witness, then document background information relevant to counsel's preparation.

Scope and Authorization

We define the initial work before the investigation begins. Any change in scope is discussed with you and requires your authorization.

Step 1: Locating the Witness

We use professional databases, public records and field verification when necessary to locate people who have moved, use incomplete identifiers or may be difficult to serve.

  • Identity resolution: Compare names, ages, addresses, associates and other identifiers before attributing a record.
  • Address development: Trace available address history and current-location leads through lawful sources.
  • Field verification: Confirm a location when database information alone is not enough.
  • Service support: Provide findings to counsel or a licensed process server; we do not compel a witness to appear.

Step 2: Pre-Deposition Background Investigations

Pre-deposition research helps counsel understand the witness and verify information that may bear on knowledge, bias or credibility. It is scoped to the case and reported with source references.

  • Criminal and civil records: Verify potentially relevant public records without treating an arrest as a conviction.
  • Bias and conflict research: Identify documented relationships or interests for counsel to evaluate.
  • Litigation history: Locate available prior cases or statements when a legitimate connection exists.
  • Source report: Separate confirmed records, possible matches and unanswered questions.

Your Questions Answered

Why do I need a background check on a witness?
Relevant, verified background information can help counsel prepare informed questions and avoid surprises. Whether a record is usable for impeachment depends on the facts, rules of evidence and the court. The purpose is preparation—not character assassination.
Can you find someone if I only have a name?
Sometimes. A former address, approximate age, workplace, relative, phone number or known associate can help distinguish the correct person from others with the same name. We do not claim a positive identification until the available identifiers reasonably support it.
What if the witness is hostile?
We can attempt to locate the witness and provide lawful location information for counsel or a process server. Background work may identify relevant relationships or interests, but it is not used to pressure, threaten or manufacture leverage over a witness.
